Acme Punched! A 2D Animation Blog: No. 184: Getting into Color

A whole lot of colour selections to be made right here!

Not My Favourite Factor, however…

You understand what my favourite factor is: animation. However after all if you’re making movies, and are doing it principally alone, you do not simply get scenes handed to you; it’s a must to do all of it.

And that could be a good factor. You then’re not simply an animator; you are a movie maker. (Though “Simply an animator” does not sound correct to me.) And as a lot as I prefer to animate, there’s pleasure and satisfaction in doing the opposite issues, too: the layouts, the script, the storyboards, the backgrounds, the colour styling–all of it.

So, colour styling, that is the place I’m proper now.  I discover myself frequently excited about what the movie will appear to be on the display screen. Ought to the palette be a restricted palette, as for instance if the whole lot have been in shades of blue and brown, and nothing else? That is a really large and necessary choice to make.  Here’s a small one: ought to the Previous Man have a brown go well with, or a inexperienced one? However I do give it some thought.

These are a couple of of my colour experiments which have occurred this week.

The girl safety guard.
The Previous Man and his trunk, confronted by the male guard.

Two of the supporting characters.
